I worked for 20+ years for IBM in the UK; I started as an engineer 4yrs in the field and 3yrs in their education department, Field Mgr. 4yrs, Salesman 12yrs, taking early retirement in 1992.

I set up PGA Limited in 1993 from which I ran IT services, focusing on Small Medium Enterprises (SME's).

For the next 20+ years, I spent less and less time with PGA Limited and SME's, to give my time to the voluntary sector, initially as a volunteer with the CAB in

Denbighshire, then working across Wales with the Welsh National CAB Organisation. For the CAB I would advise on IT strategy and give hands on assistance with both HW and SW issues.

It was during 1997 whilst working for the Denbigh CAB that I was introduced to the concept of credit unions and was asked to participate in a study group to set up a credit union locally in South Denbighshire.

After two years we finally received confirmation in 2001 to set up "Caledfryn Credit Union Limited" from the Financial Services Authority (FSA). Caledfryn was merged in 2010 with 4 other credit unions in North Wales and the combined organisation was called Cambrian Credit Union Limited trading as "Cambrian Savings and Loans".

Quote from Cambrian Credit Unions website, "We are a regulated financial cooperative which means we are subject to broadly the same scrutiny by the Financial Conduct Authority as any other bank or building society. We are also part of the Government backed Financial Services Compensation Scheme so individual savings up to £85,000 fully are protected.

I closed PGA Limited in 2015 and retired from both the CAB and the Credit Union in June 2017.

Me and Her

Since retirement from the voluntary services, Kirsty and I have become inseparable. She is so happy that I now am able to take her for walks, but not whilst it is raining, her decision.

Whilst there is a contact page in the menu, unless you wish to pay vast sums of money, it is unlikely that I will take on any more IT related services or websites.

The website that I am most proud of even with all the hassles of working with family is my brother's site which I have recently brought it into the 21st century with a "Responsive" website design. You can find George McCarthy, Professional Wildlife and Nature Photographer, by clicking here.
